Evidence of Global Warming

Earth is showing much evidence of global warming and it is important that we take heed to these signs in order to realize a better future for everyone. The intergovernmental panel on climate change has reported recently that the last 11 years have consistently been among the warmest on record since the 1850s. In addition to this the average temperature of the earth has climbed to record highs in recent decades and since it has not been this hot on earth in the last 400 years this is plenty evidence of global warming by itself but there are other signs to take into account. The Arctic is the main concern of scientists when it comes to global warming. The Arctic, including Alaska and western Canada as well as east Russia has risen in temperature at a rate that is twice the global average according to research done from 200-2004. In addition to this the ice in the arctic circle is disappearing at a rapid rate and statistics show that this place may be ice free by the year 2040 or earlier. This means the disappearance of the habitats of many animals that thrive in icy climates and as polar bears are already endangered this could be devastating for them in particular.

In addition to the loss of ice in the Arctic some other global warming effects include the loss of snow from many glaciers and mountains around the world. In 1910 the Glacier National Park in Montana had 150 glaciers and today only 27 survive and the number is continuing to dwindle. In addition to this the coral reefs have suffered the worst die off in response to warming water temperatures ever recorded in recent years. These facts about global warming are very scary indeed and may indicate a dark future for animals and humans alike all across the globe if we are not careful.
